Dorset maritime company Marine Components International (MCI) has struck a new deal to supply Bennett Marine trim tab systems to Princess Yachts latest model, the X95, presently being built at the company’s shipyard in Plymouth.
MCI managing director Andy Scott said the deal will see Poole-based MCI supply the American-made Bennett trim tabs to Princess to assist with the planing attitude of the new 95ft, 104 tonne X95 luxury yachts which have a speed range of 24-26 knots.
“We are delighted to see Bennett’s trim tabs specified on the Princess X95,” he said. “This is a fabulous new boat design in keeping with Princess Yacht’s unique style which captures the very best in luxury motorboat engineering. MCI is very proud to have supplied Princess Yachts for 29 years while Bennett products have been specified by the company for more than 35 years. MCI has drawn on all its expertise and experience to work with Princess’ design team to ensure they have a bespoke system based on the Bennett Premier Line range to help the yacht deliver maximum performance and comfort.” (see Notes to editors)
Mr Scott said MCI will be supplying stainless-steel, heavy-duty Bennett trim tabs with the complete EIC System (Electronic Indicator Control) to the X95 which will assist the yacht in reaching the optimum attitude, reducing bow rise and correcting list. (See Bennett You Tube channel).
“Bennett’s trim tabs, used correctly, maximise fuel efficiency, safety and comfort helping to control the attitude of the yacht,” he said. “The X95 is 104 tonnes carrying half fuel and half water so the weight can change considerably during a journey. As a result, the skipper needs the best possible system to help keep the yacht at the prime position. Bennett also offers, the Auto Trim Pro, which can be added to the Bennett Premium range, and will automatically adjust the tabs to maintain the optimum attitude that has been set, in order to maintain fuel efficiency and comfort, ensuring the captain can see the horizon (View Bennett Cruise Control You Tube ).”
Mr Scott said a big advantage of Bennett Marine’s products is the presence the company has in marinas worldwide.
“Having parts and technical support readily available around the world is a big factor for Princess Yachts as many of its yachts, like the X95, will be exported internationally as well as go into charter,” he said. “Delays for spares is something that neither private owners nor charterers want so Bennett’s network of distributors and suppliers across key centres like the Mediterranean, Europe, the Caribbean, the Middle East, the Americas and Australasia is very important.”
Mr Scott said the Bennett Premier line is best suited to the 10m to 40m motor yacht market like the X95 which is 28m.
MCI recently reported that new deals in the superyacht and motor boat sectors, across the UK and Europe, have helped to ramp up turnover to £1.35million in 2018/19, nearly double sales from two years ago. MCI provides distribution and technical support for a range of manufacturers and was taken over by Andy Scott in 2017. Growth is being driven by orders for Bennett Marine products and the American manufactured Groco range of bronze valves and strainers with deals being struck with superyacht and boat building yards in Italy and Greece.
Another area of growth is MCI’s Dr Shrink range of industrial packaging which is used to shrink wrap boats during refit and winter storage as well as protect machinery during transportation and buildings under construction. Mr Scott said he plans to double MCI’s turnover within three years to more than £3million.
