Construction firm Morris & Spottiswood is aiming to create a ‘gateway to the Highlands’ by launching a new office in Perth, central Scotland.
The long-standing Scottish firm will use the new base as a springboard into Dundee, Fife and Stirling while increasing presence in Aberdeen and Inverness.
The move also paves the way for job creation with Morris & Spottiswood recruiting seven new staff to manage high profile accounts in the area, effectively doubling the size of the current Perth operation. This includes roles for joiners, painters, electricians, roofers and builders.
The Fit-out, Housing, M&E (Mechanical & Electrical) and Facilities Management (FM) specialist already has offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Turnover currently stands at £80 million and is expected to break the £100 million barrier in the near future.
Morris & Spottiswood FM and M&E Director Donald Bain said the new facility, now operational, will target three core sectors – Councils, Education and Health Care.
Investment and growth in key sectors in the area are further aligned to Morris & Spottiswood’s skill set making the Highlands a hugely exciting prospect.
“The new Perth office will play a vital role in our expansion plans across Scotland,” said Mr Bain. “Our business has been operating in Scotland since 1925 and is well established around major conurbations such as Glasgow and Edinburgh. We have a strong track record of working nationwide. However, in order to make a real impact in the northern regions of Scotland it is essential to have a local presence and to build meaningful relationships. Due to an increase in infrastructure spend in these regions and recent developments to our own service offering we feel this is an ideal time to increase our footprint across the country.
“The expansion is largely being led by the progression in our Facilities Management division, which is a key growth area for Morris & Spottiswood. Our Fit-out, Housing and Flooring divisions are also looking to target Perth and Dundee territories in particular, while all activity in this region will be developed in collaboration with our M&E division which is one of our fastest expanding services.”
Morris & Spottiswood has a combined UK workforce of more than 400 staff. The firm works across many sectors including education, retail, financial, housing, leisure, health and commercial markets.
Mr Bain said the Perthshire development has been many months in the making and forms part of a broader 10-year growth plan to double turnover by 2028.
